Nothing New

So my life is pretty boring right now. Nothing exciting is happening. Alden is working a few days a week (which is about the same amount of money he was making working 5 days a week non-union). I have convinced Alden that if I am working full time and he is at home, it is his responsibility to do some of the cleaning. After all he is the one making the messes. I was just getting too overwhelmed with everything. I am excited to make the corn chowder recipe that Jackie posted on her blog because the last recipe she posted was really good. In fact, I need to make that again too.

Alden is working his first official SAG job today and tomorrow on "The Unit" (whatever that is, we have never heard of it). I am just excited that he is working again. I doubt it will be any different than his other non-union jobs have been but the paycheck will be at least twice as much. Hopefully he will continue to get booked and maybe even go to an audition or two for speaking parts. He also has a bigger chance of being up graded to larger roles and speaking parts. We'll see if anything more comes out of this.

We are so busy at the hospital and I am not getting much help from my boss. He sees a few patients just so I won't have overtime but it is getting old, and I am tired. I feel like I do all the work around here.

Oh what a PAIN!

Jack made it safely to LA and is planning on staying until Saturday sometime. He and Alden went skiing today at Snow Valley. (Alden had some free lift tickets.)

Don't believe what you hear on the news about California getting snow. Yes it snowed in places like BelAir that haven't seen snow for years but the reporters call it "covered in snow" and really it is only a skif. You wouldn't even be able to make a snow ball out of it. There have been freeway closures (luckily they haven't affected us) and people sliding all over the place but that is just because they are stupid drivers and have no experience in the snow. It is amazing to me that a half inch of snow can shut down a huge part of a city. I can't even stand to watch the news because all they talk about is the "winter storm" and how cold it is and it just irritates me to no end.

As if I needed more to happen in my life right now, I found a fraudulent charge on my bank card yesterday. This is the second time my card number has been used and it is really ticking me off. I have to get a new debit card and wait about 10 days for my money to be reimbursed. So in the meantime I am completely broke. This time the transaction was at a discount store in Phoenix, Arizona and then they stopped another transaction from going through in N. Scotsdale that was over $600. Thank goodness for that. I have completely sworn off using my debit card when we go to Arizona to see Alden's family and significantly decreasing the use here in CA. After calling and getting the ball rolling on the fraud claim, I had a meltdown for a few minutes and now I am fine. Ticked off, but not to the point of bursting into tears at any given moment. Luckily I have an emergency credit card for situations just like this.

Yesterday was our six year anniversary of being together. Time flies! It was supposed to be a good day but I was grouchy and super emotional. Every time I thought about being together for so long and that we are not married I started to cry. Of course, Alden seemed completely oblivious to the whole situation. We went out to dinner to Applebees which we had to drive about 30 minutes to get to (the closest one to our place) and about five minutes before our dinner was supposed to come out, the power went out to the whole city. We sat there for about twenty minutes sipping our drinks and then the waitress came by to tell us that they were closing all of the tickets. Luckily we had just enough cash to pay for our drinks and appetizer. So as we are leaving the parking lot the power comes back on. The power was out for close to an hour before it came back on. We had to go to Wal-Mart anyway so we went there and then called the restraunt to see if they were opening back up. We ended up having a good meal, it just took longer than we planned.

We have been getting ready for Alden's brother Jack to come and visit and take things home with him. So in the process of finding all of the bedding for the full size bed, we made a huge mess and then had to put it all away again. I will be so glad when Jack comes and we can load everything in the back of his truck and have some more space in our apartment. We will be getting rid of a bed, bedding, 27" tv, a small refrigerator and the bullet bike (motorcycle) and all of it's gear. Then maybe I will be able to get the apartment back to normal and not so cluttered.

Alden's blazer has to go back in to be fixed again today. For some reason it is dying at random times when he comes to a stop and then it takes a few minutes for it to want to start up again. What a pain! Hopefully it will be fixed in a couple of days. So a bit of good news for Alden. He is officially a SAG union member and we hope he will get lots of work. He is now eligible to go to auditions for speaking parts and more upgrades on set as an extra. Not to mention the increase in pay.

Back from Vacation!

We made it back from visiting our family. We drove all day on Saturday so we could pick up a mattress on Sunday from Alden's aunt. She was getting rid of a queen size bed and since we needed a bigger bed we decided to take it. It is only a couple years old and has been used in a guest room the entire time. I think we got a good deal. It is really comfortable. And it actually fit into our room nicely.

The trip home was nice. I got to see all of my family (except Isaac who is in Houston on his mission), set off $1000 worth of fireworks, and see my best friend and her family. The fireworks were a promotional gift that my brother got for buying a truck at the local dealership in town. All of them would be illegal in any other state but Wyoming. We had a bon fire, hot chocolate and a huge fireworks display. My family is all doing good. Rollie has a new girlfriend, who I have known for years, and she has two kids from a previous marriage. He seems happy.

Alden's family is also doing good. Alden went snowmobiling with his friend Aaron and then skiing the next day with his family. Sherry and I watched the kids (six boys) and I was worn out at the end of the day. We were able to see Shawn's twin boys again. The only other time we have seen them, they were about 3 weeks old and still tiny. The drive home was long because of frequent stopping but at least I had a day to recover before going back to work.

After this week work will go back to normal. The contract at Live Oak ends on the 14th and then I shouldn't have to be going to other buildings for a while.

Now I have to clean the apartment. We have so much stuff to put away from our trip and we have an extra television and mattress until Jack comes to pick everything up.
